28 Sep ‘Did you know?’ Thursdays
Have you ever heard of reading as a therapy?
For some people reading isn’t a particularly appealing activity; for others, reading can serve to cross the boundaries of time and place as connect with other people.
When you read a book, you familiarise yourself with different situations and dilemmas. You might empathise with a particular character and ask yourself: ‘What would I do in his/her place?’. The challenges faced by fictional characters may resonate with you and make you feel like you are not alone.
Reading can thus act as a form of therapy. It might not cure physical diseases or mend broken bones, but it can give people hope and a better understanding of their own personal experiences or feelings, or those of others.
