Laws are informed by culture and in turn, mould culture and customs. What is illegal in one country, might be allowed and consequently, socially acceptable in another.
There are a number of ‘unsuspected’ laws around the world, that you may be interested to know about:
Japan: Japan’s stringent anti-stimulant drug laws ban Vicks inhalers and Sudafed. Medications containing codeine cannot be transported to Japan.
Italy: It is an offence to eat or snack on church steps or in church courtyards in Florence. Culprits are punished with a fine
Fiji: Topless and nudity are outlawed on this island in the South Pacific Ocean
Kazakhstan: Thinking of taking a selfie before boarding the plane? Think twice – this is illegal in Kazakhstan and might get you into trouble
Greece: Keep your pants on in Greece. Dropping one’s drawers is an offence punishable with a fine or even jail.
